In a test using its newest guided-missile destroyer, the indian Navy successfully intercepted a fast-moving, sea-skimming missile target amid tensions with pakistan over the pahalgam terrorist incident.

Indian Navy Test Fires
"The successful completion of a targeted coordinated engagement of a sea-skimming target by the indian Navy's newest indigenous guided missile destroyer, INS Surat, represents a critical turning point in the Navy's defense capabilities.  This accomplishment highlights the country's dedication to self-reliance in defense production and shows the indian Navy's increasing proficiency in designing, developing, and operating indigenous warships," the indian Navy said in a statement.

Pakistan is reportedly getting ready for a surface-to-surface missile test near the Karachi coastline between april 24 and 25, which coincides with the indian Navy's demonstration.  Indian defense officials are keeping a tight eye on the situation, despite Pakistan's assertions that the test will take place inside its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).  According to analysts, the test most likely used babur or Shaheen-III cruise missiles, which can reach large indian cities.

Deadly Terror Attack Sparks Diplomatic Fallout
Following Tuesday's terror assault in Pahalgam's Baisaran meadow, the geopolitical tension increased. It was the bloodiest terrorist strike in recent years, with 26 people killed. Responsibility has purportedly been claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a front for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) organization based in Pakistan.

In response, india has taken strong diplomatic and economic measures, including:

Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty

Closure of the Attari border checkpoint

Revocation of SAARC visa exemptions

Cancellation of all valid visas for Pakistani nationals (except medical visas, valid only till april 29)

Expulsion of Pakistani citizens under the Special Visa Exemption Scheme within 48 hours
