Bollywood appears to be caught in a recurring pattern.  The same content is being pushed down the audience's throats, rehashed, and disguised differently.  The mystique of movies and the theater experience is eroding, and it seems like they are produced according to a formula that ensures success.  However, why is that?  Why are half of the theaters just partially occupied?  Is this the cause of the company's decline?  The gross box office receipts for hindi films reportedly fell by 13% in 2024.

There are numerous explanations.  First of all, many people still consider OTT to be subpar even though we live in a wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>digital world. Directly available films on OTT platforms are frequently judged unworthy.  The moviegoer demographic has evolved since COVID-19.  By watching sophisticated films from over the globe, the erstwhile whistling, masala-film-loving population has improved their taste.

The standard has been raised.  Bollywood hasn't changed, but the audience has.  In the hopes that the audience will still find it appealing, it keeps repackaging the same characters and clichés under other names, in different settings, and with changing looks.  Re-releases are effective in part because of this.  For the spectator, those were the characters' first genuine encounters.  Everything else seems to be a replica.

Bollywood is currently in a blind area on a worldwide scale.  In the past, movies like Lagaan contributed to its international recognition, but what about now?  The movie All We Imagine as Light wasn't made in Bollywood.  RRR wasn't either.  The industry has lost the ability to grind because it is so consumed by its own glitz.  It will take a significant effort for bollywood to recover from its own devastation.  It must realize that its audience is considerably more intelligent now and that nostalgia won't keep them interested for very long.
