At the height of his acting success, vinod khanna decided to leave the business and follow his spiritual mentor, Osho Rajneesh. But after a five-year break, he returned, abandoning the spiritual quest and entering the world of glamour. He was filming prem Dharam (1987), his first motion picture appearance in a very long time.
 
Dimple Kapadia played the lead role in the Mahesh Bhatt-directed movie.  According to multiple sources, Khanna had to embrace and kiss Dimple for the shoot because he was asked to perform an intimate moment after a very long time.  Even though mahesh bhatt screamed and cut multiple times during the scene's filming, vinod khanna lost control and continued to embrace and kiss her.

Bhatt urged the two to reshoot the scene for a longer period after they had already shot it once.  To get the shot, he shifted places with the crew and sat a little farther away.  Bollywood Shadis.com reported that vinod khanna kept kissing and cuddling Dimple even after being told to "cut" out loud.
 
Then, to free Dimple from Khanna, mahesh bhatt stepped in and hurried over.  According to several accounts, she went straight to her makeup room after the entire shoot since she was traumatized.  Later, Bhatt urged vinod khanna to apologize to her and persuade her that he was intoxicated.  The actor later said that he overreacted while filming a private scene following a lengthy hiatus.  

Regarding his private life, vinod khanna had two kids, rahul khanna and Akshay Khanna, from his first marriage to geetanjali Taleyarkhan.  But when he made the decision to become more spiritual, geetanjali made a concerted effort to persuade him to change his ways, but it was unsuccessful.  In 1985, the couple made the decision to split up.  Khanna later married Kavita Daftary, and the two of them had a son and a daughter.
