Following India's fight against terror coming from pakistan, the States of punjab and haryana as well as the Union Territory of chandigarh remained on high alert. government employees in sectors such as police and health were urged to be on duty around-the-clock on thursday, May 8, 2025, and their leaves were cancelled.
 
The government of punjab has mandated that all government, private, and assisted schools, colleges, and universities in the province stay closed for the next three days.  Harjot Bains, the punjab Education minister, stated on thursday evening, May 8, 2025, that the decision was made in light of the changing circumstances.


The haryana government canceled the leaves of all police and health department employees, while punjab police canceled the leaves of all its employees.  According to an order from the Mission health director of the National health Mission (Chandigarh), medical leaves for employees of the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) and the Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (UAAMs) in chandigarh were terminated immediately till further notice. 

All punjab police officers' and staff members' leaves were terminated on May 7 for administrative reasons, per an order from the punjab DGP office.  The State government has decided to ban all officers and employees working in the health Department from taking leave with immediate effect, according to haryana health and Family Welfare minister Arti Singh Rao. This decision was made in light of the current tense situation with pakistan and the situation arising from the point of view of national security.
 
The decision was made to guarantee the State's health services would continue, be efficient, and respond quickly, she said, adding that officials have been instructed to assess the readiness of all hospitals and health centers and to fortify plans.  


As a precaution, all of the schools in Punjab's six border districts—Amritsar, Pathankot, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Ferozepur—have already been closed until further notice.  To handle emergency circumstances, response teams including police, civil defense, and district administration personnel have been established at the district, subdivision, block, and village levels throughout the state.
