Former captain sourav ganguly has pointed out that the indian team missed a key opportunity in the first Test match against England. The pitch designer had said that this match being played at Headingley would not be favorable for batting first. Accordingly, england also chose to bowl first after winning the toss. However, when the indian team batted, the pitch provided favorable conditions for batting. Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and rishabh pant made good use of it and scored centuries. However, the indian team scored only 471 runs on a favorable pitch for batting and lost all its wickets. Pointing out this, sourav ganguly said, "The indian team should have scored 600 runs on this pitch. No one expected the Headingley ground to be so dry. But, if the indian team had scored 600 runs, the nature of the pitch would have changed after that. Now the indian team must win this match. Such an opportunity will not come again."
After the indian team scored 471 runs, england, who batted next, also started to accumulate runs. The team had scored 290 runs for the loss of three wickets at the end of the second day's play. England's Ollie Pope had scored a century. As the english team is also accumulating runs aggressively like the indian team, this match is currently balanced. There is a situation where it cannot be said that there is competition on either side. If india had scored 600 runs, then this match would have definitely gone in India's favor. Only at the end of the third day will we be able to tell which team is going to dominate this match.
