The US attacked Iran's three main nuclear sites, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, on june 22, 2025, using GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs from B-2 stealth bombers. The US carried out this attack in collaboration with Israel, and the strike was carried out with the aim of disabling Iran's nuclear weapons program. It is predicted that the Israel-Iran conflict will explode on a large scale following the direct intervention of the US. So why did the US military target only these 3 sites?
Natanz is a major uranium enrichment facility 135 miles from Tehran, where it produces 60% pure uranium. Although the surface facilities have been damaged by previous Israeli strikes, secure underground areas are still operational. Fordo is located under a mountain. This is a highly protected site 60 miles from Tehran. It is designed to be immune to air strikes. Although the site has been under construction since 2007, it was only revealed to the world in 2009. It was the site that suffered the most attacks of the three. Isfahan is home to a uranium conversion center and laboratory, where thousands of scientists work. It is believed to be the backbone of Iran's nuclear research.

Iran's nuclear program has long been a major concern for global security. As a result, many Western countries, including the United States, have imposed sanctions on the country. iran and the US have held talks on this issue several times, but they have failed. The highly enriched uranium at Natanz and Fordow is close to weapons-grade. Isfahan is engaged in research and uranium conversion. According to the IAEA, no radiation leaks have been confirmed from these attacks. Iran's other sites, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and the Arak Heavy Water Reactor are used for electricity generation and plutonium production.

Tehran Research Reactor: Initially provided by the US in 1967 under the "Atoms for Peace" programme, it now operates on low-enriched uranium.
The US attacks on Iran's nuclear sites have caused geopolitical tensions and a rise in oil prices. The conflict is having a significant impact on global markets, as india has to review its energy security and economic strategies.
