Nations like the united states and the United Arab Emirates typically spring to mind when we think about opulent structures. It may surprise you to learn that north korea is home to the world's tallest hotel, not dubai or New York. With 105 stories and a height of 330 meters, the Ryugyong Hotel is located in Pyongyang. However, reports state that the hotel has never received a single visitor despite its impressive size.

The Ryugyong Hotel is frequently likened to the pyramids of ancient egypt due to its pyramid-like design. At 182 meters, it is almost twice as tall as India's Statue of Unity. Constructed to serve as a representation of North Korea's development and contemporary design, the hotel is currently more well-known for being incomplete and deserted.

The hotel's construction started in 1987 and was first finished in 1992.  However, the interior construction was never completed because of the fall of the Soviet Union and the subsequent economic difficulties in North Korea.  The building remained a vacant shell for many years.

An Egyptian business took on the project of renovating the hotel's exterior in 2008. For the addition of glass panels and aluminum cladding, they spent about USD 180 million. In 2011, this project was finished. During national holidays, patriotic videos and symbols are shown on the LED lights that now adorn the hotel's exterior. However, there are rumors that the hotel is still empty inside.

It's interesting to note that the hotel has never been formally opened, even though it was finished from the outside.  The interiors are currently unfinished, which is why there aren't any visitors.
