Food Delivery Platforms Hike Fees Ahead of GST

Zomato, Swiggy, and Magicpin have raised platform fees ahead of the 18% GST implementation on delivery charges from september 22, 2025.

The fee hike comes just before the festive season, potentially increasing food delivery costs for millions of users across India.

Platform Fee Details

Swiggy: Platform fee increased to Rs 15, inclusive of GST, in select markets.

Zomato: Platform fee raised to Rs 12.50, excluding GST.

magicpin: Platform fee revised to Rs 10 per order, the lowest among major food delivery companies.

Impact of GST on Delivery Costs

With the 18% GST levy on delivery charges from september 22:

Zomato users may see an additional Rs 2 per order.

Swiggy customers may pay an extra Rs 2.6 per order.

Magicpin claims recent GST changes do not affect their cost structure, keeping fees at Rs 10 per order.

Industry Trends

Platform fees have become an important revenue source for food delivery companies.

Simultaneous fee hikes across major players indicate rising costs in India’s food delivery sector.

Consumers may face higher bills during peak demand, raising questions about affordability versus convenience.

Company Responses

Swiggy and zomato did not respond to PTI queries regarding the fee hike.

A Magicpin spokesperson confirmed that their platform fees remain unchanged despite GST, emphasizing their cost efficiency.

Conclusion

The fee increase, combined with GST, signals higher costs for consumers.

As food delivery becomes more expensive, customers may need to reassess their ordering habits during the festive season.
