A rape survivor moved the supreme court on saturday seeking permission to marry the convict in the case. The apex court will hear the case on Monday.

In february 2019, Catholic priest Robin Vadakkumchery of Kerala, the convict in the case, was sentenced to a rigorous imprisonment for 20 years after the court found him guilty of raping a minor. After the court's verdict, the church took steps to dismiss the convicted priest and finally in 2020 defrocked him.

Robin Vadakkumchery used to work as a priest in a parish church of Kerala, where the girl belonged to a catholic family. In 2016, the girl just after writing her class 10 exams, went to the priest's parsonage for some work of the parish along with other girls. In the afternoon, when other girls were away, priest Vadakkumchery called the girl in his bedroom and raped her. Later, he let her go, but asked not to tell anyone about the incident in a commanding tone.

Following this, she said nothing to anyone and went to school usually and attended the local church mass everyday. Later she became pregnant due to the rape. The girl had experienced severe abdomen pain and was rushed to the local hospital on february 7, 2017. The hospital later referred her to Christu raja Hospital in Kannur, which is run by the nuns of the Sacred heart Congregation. In the hospital, it was revealed that she was pregnant and she subsequently gve birth to a child.

Upon learning about the rape incident from the girl, her family questioned the priest, who just offered to pay the hospital bills and attempted to cover up the matter. Later,  in february 2017  the Priest Vadakkumchery was arrested from Kochi.
