Another JaiBhim incident: 21-year-old found dead after custodial torture


A 21-year-old student was found dead at home on sunday after he was detained by the police at Ramanathapuram district. The 21-year old college student named Manikandan was stopped by the police for the Vehicle check at Ramanathapuram district Tamilnadu. The family of Manikandan denied receiving the body saying that he was under custodial torture.

They are asking for action against the police who did this torture. The dead student L.Manikandan was identified as a resident of Neerkozhiyenthal village. It was said that the police officers were carried out vehicle checks on the Paramakudi road. When Manikandan's vehicle passed by, he refused to stop his vehicle when he was asked to do so. The police officers chased his vehicle and also detained him at the station for further questioning.
            Manikandan's mother was informed to pick his son from the station. He informed his mother, that he was beaten up by the cops during the investigation. On sunday, Manikandan was found dead in his room and when he was rushed to hospital, he was declared dead by the hospital staff. The Family of Manikandan had blockaded the roads and asked for action against the police officers in the Keezhathooval station.
 The crowd was dispersed by the police only after several hours. The police claimed that the investigation took place for two hours and his mother was also present during the investigation.
