Rajiv Gandhi's Favorite Thoothukudi Macaroons!!

 


Former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's 78th birthday today. He was born in 1944. rajiv gandhi entered indian politics in 1980 after the death of his brother Sanjay. He served as an advisor to his mother and then prime minister Indira gandhi and as a Member of Parliament. Shortly after his mother's assassination in 1984, he assumed office as Prime Minister.

Here are some lesser-known facts about him.

  • Photography was Rajiv Gandhi's favorite pastime. Several publishers asked to publish his photographs. But he refused it. After his death, his wife Sonia gandhi published in 1995 a book of his photographs taken over four decades.
  • Among the Prime Ministers of India, rajiv gandhi used to drive his own car. During his election campaigns, he would drive his car.
  • Every time he comes to tamil Nadu, macaroons are a must in his party program. Rajiv Gandhi's only favorite was the macaroons at Ganesh Bakery in Tuticorin. Whenever he comes to tamil Nadu, he buys and eats macaroons from here.
  • Rajiv gandhi worked as a pilot before entering the political arena.
  • At first, he was not very interested in politics.
  • Even though he made several efforts to eradicate corruption and various corruption allegations were leveled against him, including the 'Boffers' scam, the congress stopped calling him 'Mr Glynn'.
  • He was the last prime minister from the Nehru family.
  • He was assassinated on May 21, 1991 in Sriperumbudur.
