The month of May is coming to an end and the heat is increasing. The temperature in many states across the country including Delhi-NCR is above 40 degrees, in such a situation, people are remembering air conditioners (AC) to avoid the scorching heat. The trend of AC has increased so much that now every house has at least one or two ACs. In true sense, AC has now become a necessity for humans.
In the last few years, the temperature of the earth is continuously increasing. Every year the average temperature also increases by one to two percent, due to which it has become difficult for people to live in the humid scorching heat. The situation is such that fans and coolers have stopped working and the only way to avoid the heat is AC. Even though lying in front of the AC gives us immediate relief from the heat, but do you know how much heat increases by running an AC all day long?
Air conditioners are causing global warming
The temperature of the earth is constantly increasing. Glaciers are melting. Rivers are drying up and the heat is increasing. The reason is - air conditioners. Scientists say that air conditioners are the biggest reason for global warming. The gas emitted from them is causing damage to the environment and the ozone layer of the atmosphere. Despite this, the number of ACs is increasing all over the world. In 2021, a United Nations report said that about 5.6 billion air conditioner units were running in the world, whose number is estimated to quadruple by 2050.
How much does an AC increase the temperature?
You must have realized that we feel more heat in urban areas, whereas as soon as we go a little outside the city, there is a lot of difference in temperature. The reason for this is air conditioners. In fact, due to AC running throughout the day in most of the houses in the cities, gases like chlorofluorocarbons and hydro-chlorofluorocarbons are emitted. These gases create heat in the environment. Apart from this, by running the AC, its exhaust air also works to heat the temperature outside the room. If we talk about an AC, then due to this the outside temperature increases by one to two degrees.
