Recently, theatrical remakes have seen totally dismal box office performance. Theatergoers no longer watch remakes because they can easily watch the originals on OTT. Nevertheless, oddly enough, the remakes or, as they are more commonly known, "adaptations," have now found their way onto OTT. The hindi film The Night Manager, for instance, stars arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and others. This is a remake of the same-named english television series. It is advertised as being only a copy of the original.

Rana Naidu, a telugu film starring venkatesh and Rana, will then air on Netflix on march 10th. This is a Ray Donovan adaptation. According to recent sources, the telugu version of the british gamer comedy series Dead Pixels starring niharika konidela and Harsha Chemudu is now under production. The Samantha's Citadel hindi adaptation is the last one, and it is also in the works.

Remakes have been firmly rejected by theatregoers, but this trend has now reached OTT. The odd thing is that the major OTT providers who were already broadcasting the original are now commissioning indian adaptations of the same content with local talent. The only benefit is that since watching the original episodes of series takes time, the audience may not be as interested in doing so. The adaptations may benefit in part from this. The desire to see new content is one of the main motives for which consumers pay money to OTT giants. Is it appropriate for these OTTs to offer hindi adaptations of their own english programmes in that case?
