When did salman khan, Akshay Kumar, or Shah Rukh Khan last have a hit? Not one in at least the last few years, which is a long time. Their movies have a very high recovery goal. A hit's recovery in comparison to its expenditure distinguishes it from a flop. And during the previous few years, these stars' movies have fallen well short of redemption.

Hindi historical dramas based on well-known historical individuals, such as "Padmavat," "Bajirao Mastani," "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior," "Samrat Prithviraj," and "Panipat," failed to generate the necessary buzz at the box office. In contrast to previous movies, Rajamouli's "RRR" is based on the lives of regional independence fighters in the hindi belt who we knew nothing about. However, the movie was the top draw at the theatres here here and in the South.

It all comes down to the overall presentation a maker makes, an idea from which the hindi producers appear to have drifted. It seems that if a movie doesn't fare well at the box office, not many people are interested in watching it on OTT either, even four weeks later. It won't even be a recollection by the ninth week. And in the interim, a lot more would have happened. Both the OTT investor and the theatres stand to lose in this scenario.
