Doctor Fate saw recurring visions of Hawkman's demise throughout Black Adam. He was saddened by the idea that his old friend would pass away, and Kent was made even more uneasy by the realisation that Carter Hall was not terrified of dying. doctor Fate understood that fighting Sabbac alone for a while before asking Black Adam for help was one way he could prevent his comrade from meeting his end.

Doctor Fate gives his life, although there are more reasons besides averting Hawkman's demise. Kent had worn the Helmet of Fate for a significant portion of his life by this point and had seen a variety of futures and versions of events that merged into one another in their confusion. doctor Fate was bound to these abilities, but he had gained enough wisdom to understand that he had seen enough.

With the constant flood of pictures clouding his mind and preventing him from experiencing calm or tranquilly, Kent's skills were in some ways a burden, and after spending so many years seeing the future, he had grown weary of them. doctor Fate wished she could finally look into the future without seeing anything. He might have just decided after witnessing Hawkman's demise, which he probably couldn't bear to see, leading him to choose his own doom.
