An employee of ACTC events, the company that organised AR Rahman's concert here on september 10, and two other people were accused by chennai police on friday of overselling tickets, betraying the public's trust, and causing inconvenience.
'Marakkuma Nenjam' was the title of Oscar-winning musician Rahman's concert, which took place at a private location on east Coast Road (ECR). "A lot of individuals argued that the venue was chaotic and that there had been an oversale of concert tickets. After that, the tambaram City police took over the investigation and filed cases against hemanth Raja, the CEO of ACTC events, and two other people under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), a senior police official said.
An investigation showed that the event's organisers had sold more tickets than the arena could accommodate. According to him, they were also the subject of a cheating case. According to tambaram City police Commissioner A Amalraj, more than 15,000 people than anticipated gathered at the location. There were 25,000 chairs set up, but "35,000 to 40,000 people showed up," he said, adding that the crowd was "more than expected."
Many people complained on social media that they couldn't get to the event in time because of the heavy traffic on the ECR, while others criticised the way things were handled that night and pointed out that even though they had paid a lot of money for the tickets, they weren't allowed entry.
