Utpal Dutt's family background

Utpal Dutt was born on 29 march 1929 at a place named Barisal in West Bengal. Utpal Dutt belongs to a bengali Hindu family. His father was Girijaranjan Dutt who worked in Barisal. Utpal Dutt's early education took place in Shillong, meghalaya but his college studies were done at St. Xavier's college, Kolkata. Utpal Dutt graduated in english Literature with Honours. Utpal Dutt married actress Shobha Sen in 1960, from whom he has an only daughter, Bishnupriya Dutt. Bishnupriya has been a professor at the theater and Performance Studies school of Arts in Jawaharlal Nehru, Delhi.


Utpal Dutt's film career

Utpal Dutt has been fond of performing in theaters since his college days. He was one of the founders of the indian Pupils theater Association (IPTA), established in 1943. He continued working in theater for a long time but in the year 1950, Michael Madhusudan signed his first film which was a bengali film. Utpal Dutt worked in many bengali films but later he thought of doing hindi films and came to Mumbai. After a lot of hard work, Utpal Dutt got his first hindi film 'Guddi'. After this, he got recognition for the film Golmaal (1969).
