Poonam Pandey as Mandodari in Luv-Kush Ramlila
Actress poonam pandey has been cast as Mandodari, the wife of Ravana, in Delhi’s famous Luv-Kush Ramlila at the red Fort.
In a video shared on Instagram, she expressed happiness and gratitude for playing such a significant role in the Ramayana-based play.
Dressed simply in a white kurta, poonam pandey said the character of Mandodari is “very important” and she feels honored to portray it.
Spiritual Preparation for the Role
Poonam Pandey announced that she will observe a nine-day navratri fast.
She stated that the fast would help her remain pure in body and mind while playing the role.
Her words in the video:
“I have decided to fast for the entire navratri festival. This will help me become more pure in mind and body and enable me to portray this character even more beautifully.”
She concluded with “Jai Shri Ram.”
VHP’s Objection and Controversy
The vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has objected to Poonam Pandey’s casting.
Their concern is rooted in her past controversies, which they claim have damaged her public image.
Incidents cited by VHP include:
Her 2011 world cup stunt, when she promised to strip if india won.
Her false announcement of death in 2024.
VHP argued that casting for religious plays like Ramlila must consider cultural sensitivity and not just acting talent, as the sentiments of devotees are deeply tied to these performances.
