 Released in 1975, Sholay remains one of indian cinema’s most iconic films. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, it featured a stellar cast including amitabh bachchan, Dharmendra, hema Malini, sanjeev Kumar, and Amjad Khan.


Pre-Release Doubts


 In a recent interview with ANI, director Ramesh Sippy revealed that prior to its release, many in the industry were skeptical about Sholay’s success.


“People thought the film wouldn’t succeed. They questioned if such an expensive film would be profitable,” said Sippy.


Quick Turnaround in Public Perception


 Despite the doubts, the film’s fate changed within just 2 to 4 weeks of release.


“Everyone found out the answer within 2–4 weeks,” he shared, as the film quickly became a box-office juggernaut.


Global Acclaim at TIFF 2025


 A restored 4K version of Sholay was recently screened at the Toronto international Film festival (TIFF).


 Sippy noted the audience reaction mirrored what it was five decades ago.


“People watched it with the same love, repeated the dialogues, and cherished every scene.”

 Representing his father Dharmendra, bobby deol attended the TIFF premiere.


 He was joined by Ramesh Sippy, producer Shahzad Sippy, and FHF director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.
