The legendary actor Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan had starred in the pre independence era flick Hey Ram, way back in 2000, and the film was also his own directorial Venture. Also starring Bollywood badshah king Khan Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Vasundhara Das and Hemamalini, the movie was a commercially unsuccessful outing.
The movie had Kamal playing a Hindu, Saket Ram, who loses his wife played by Rani Mukerji, in riots and since then develops a hatred on Gandhi. Shahrukh Khan played his Muslim bestfriend Amjad Ali Khan, and the movie ends with Saket Ram coming to terms with who Gandhi was in reality.
Now, post the recent meeting of Kamal Haasan and Shahrukh Khan with world class director Christopher Nolan last week, Kamal himself has revealed that , Shahrukh Khan has purchased the remake rights of Hey Ram from co-producer Bharat shah. It is to be seen if SRK will reprise his role in the original, or make with fresh faces, in this remake which comes after almost two decades.
