Cheetahs will be transported by air from gwalior to Kuno to alleviate the strain of a long road trip. On february 18, 2023, twelve cheetahs from south africa will go to india and merge with the eight from namibia in Kuno National Park in Sheopur, madhya pradesh (MP).
On february 9, a group of delegates and representatives from the National tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change went to South Africa.
The mp Forest Department has erected additional bomas (enclosures) for the incoming batch and is prepared to welcome them. The translocation's mastermind, YV Jhala, is in Kuno overseeing the preparations and keeping an eye on the eight cheetahs that travelled to india in September.
After much delay, the Memorandum of Understanding between New delhi and Pretoria to transport 12 cheetahs from south africa to india was finally signed. The eight big cats from namibia that arrived to the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district on september 17, will get joined with these 12 cheetahs.
Similar to how the Namibian cheetahs were transported, 12 cheetahs—seven males and five females—will be transported from Windhoek to gwalior in a commercial aeroplane. In order to save them the strain of a road trip to the big cats, they will then be airlifted from gwalior to Kuno.
