In which case did Sidhu go to jail?

In the 1988 road rage case, congress lawmaker Navjot Singh Sidhu received a one-year prison term from the supreme court last year. In fact, Sidhu was accused that on december 27, 1988, he was present in the Sherawale market of patiala along with his friend Rupinder Singh Sandhu. At that time Sidhu was playing for the indian cricket team and due to this he was very popular. Sherawala market was just 1.5 km away from Sidhu's house in Patiala. Sidhu and his friend got into an argument with 65-year-old Gurnam Singh over the issue of parking in the market. The argument turned into a fight and Sidhu kneeled Gurnam down. Due to this, Gurnam Singh was injured and later he died in the hospital.

In this case, an FIR of murder was registered against Sidhu by the patiala police. Later on september 22, 1999, the trial court acquitted Sidhu and Rupinder in this case. In the year 2002, the matter reached the punjab and haryana high court, where in the year 2006, the high court held both of them guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and imposed a sentence of 3-3 years and a fine of Rs 1-1 lakh. In the year 2007, the matter went to the supreme court and the supreme court sentenced Siddu to one year on May 19, 2022.
