Actor Vijay has filed a petition in the chennai high court seeking a tax cut on a Rolls Royce car imported from the UK. Following the inquiry, high court Judge SM Subramaniam dismissed Vijay's plea and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. He also demanded that the fine be paid to the Chief Minister's Corona Relief Fund.

Commenting on the case, "Paying taxes is not a donation. Actors should be heroes in real life, not real heroes. Actors who claim to strive for social justice cannot accept tax exemptions."

Following this, an appeal was lodged on behalf of actor Vijay objecting to some of the comments made by the judge.

When the case came up for hearing today, the lawyer appearing for actor Vijay said, "The judge had said that the profession was not mentioned in the case documents. It is unnecessary for a judge to criticize a car that has been bought with hard work".

Moreover, there is no need for tax evasion in an environment where actor Vijay is providing employment to millions in the film industry. The court was told that the outstanding tax amount of 32 lakh 30 thousand rupees had been paid in august itself.

Vijay's side also said that the comments of the separate judge, in this case, had caused him mental distress as he was personally offended.

The judges, who recorded actor Vijay's defence, adjourned the case without setting a date.

In 2012, actor Vijay imported a Rolls-Royce luxury car made in the UK. Following this, the Assistant Commissioner of business Taxation issued an order to pay the entrance tax on the car.

The petitioner stated that the car could not be registered with the Regional Transport office and could not be used due to non-payment of tax on the car.

The judge who heard the petition also stressed that since the petitioner is a renowned actor, it is the backbone of the country to pay proper taxes on time.
