2014 saw the separation of andhra pradesh into the state of Telangana. However, as the telugu state prepares for yet another significant election, the statehood debate has once again emerged despite nine years and two assembly elections. By the end of the year, telangana and four other states will have elections. It's not simply a test for the state's political figures; it's also quite important because the general election in 2024 is right around the corner.
The statehood issue was brought up on monday by none other than prime minister Narendra Modi during his speech in the Lok Sabha, barely months out from elections. "Several attempts were made to restrict Telangana's rights. The history of telangana was inscribed with blood. But when telangana was created, neither telangana nor andhra pradesh commemorated the creation of the states. During Monday's special session of Parliament, PM Modi declared that the seeds of "divide and rule" had been planted.

CONGRESS POLL PROMISE LINKED TO STATEHOOD

With former congress leader sonia gandhi promising the people of telangana six guarantees should the party win the forthcoming election, the congress got on the statehood bandwagon. Among these assurances, the promise to provide supporters of the telangana movement a 250-square-yard plot of land stands out as a particularly distinctive promise. people actively agitated for the creation of a separate state on the streets during the telangana movement.

According to political experts, each party tries to claim responsibility for the creation of Telangana. K Chandrashekar Rao, the current chief minister and leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (formerly telangana Rashtra Samithi), is the first to exploit the statehood problem. K chandrasekhar Rao, or kcr as he is more commonly known, actually came to power in 2014 and has remained in that position as a result of his active involvement in the telangana movement.

This year, the telangana Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the state's ruling party, held a lengthy 21-day celebration to mark the state's creation. Once more, this serves to remind people that kcr was the movement's leader. For trs (now BRS), the telangana movement has proven to be a recipe for success, according to political analyst and seasoned journalist Gouri Shankar.

TELANGANA FORMATION AND WHY IT'S STILL AN ISSUE

When Telangana-based MLAs of the congress party decided to support the creation of a new telangana state in 2000, the political climate in that region underwent a substantial change. kcr later quit his job as the andhra pradesh Assembly's deputy speaker in 2001 and started the telangana rashtra samithi (TRS), a new political organization devoted to the cause of Telangana. kcr was the TDP's (Telugu Desam Party) leader at the time.

When the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) administration at the Centre declared its commitment to starting the process in 2009, the movement towards the creation of a separate telangana state gained further traction. Therefore, the congress also sees a political advantage in asserting that it was responsible for the creation of a separate telangana state.

The UPA at the Centre approved the division of andhra pradesh in 2009, therefore the congress thinks it can capitalise on public resentment. To win over Telangana's residents, it might take some trial and error, Gouri shankar suggested, adding that KCR's party was still benefiting from the telangana statehood issue.
