delhi congress President Devendra Yadav has expressed serious concern over the poor public transport facility. He said that during the tenure of the bjp government, Delhi's transport facility has completely deteriorated. Especially in this scorching heat and deadly heat wave season, when lakhs of people are dependent on public buses, passengers are facing a lot of problems due to the huge shortage of DTC buses and lack of shelter at the bus stop.
Devendra Yadav said that the delhi government has not only failed to improve the public transport facility, but more than 2000 DTC buses have been removed from the fleet during its tenure. He also questioned the Chief Minister's announcement, in which it was said that 1000 e-buses would be included in the first week of April, but not a single bus has been included till now.
Huge drop in the number of buses- Devendra Yadav
He also cited the delhi High Court's directive, which said that 11,000 DTC buses were necessary in the capital. But, while there were 4344 DTC buses in 2015-16, it decreased to 3937 in 2022-23. During the congress government, the number of buses was more than 7000 and during the tenure of the sheila dikshit government, a big step was taken towards pollution control by introducing cng buses, which was appreciated internationally.
Devendra Yadav described the policies of the bjp government as 'confused' and said that on the one hand the number of buses is being reduced, while on the other hand there is talk of stopping cng auto rickshaws. This will put the employment of lakhs of families in crisis and pollution will increase further due to the increase in the number of private vehicles.
'Tourists also have problems with transport'
He also said that keeping in mind the increasing population of delhi, a plan was made to run DTC and cluster buses in the ratio of 50:50, but the governments have failed in this too. Being the capital of the country, tourists from the country and abroad also come to delhi, but due to the poor condition of transport facilities, not only the local people but also the tourists are getting troubled. Devendra Yadav demanded from the government that by immediately improving the public transport, better, safe and convenient transport services should be provided to the people of Delhi.
