Differences between lok sabha mp shashi tharoor and the congress party have once again started coming to the fore. On tuesday (July 22, 2025), Tharoor gave a befitting reply to the critics. Recently, senior kerala leader K. Muralidharan had said that 'Tharoor is no longer with us'. Although Tharoor did not take names, he clearly said that those who make such statements should have some solid basis.
What did shashi tharoor say?
Tharoor, while talking to reporters in Delhi, said, 'Those who are saying this should give some basis for it. Who are they? I want to know. Then we will see. Do not ask me about the behavior of others, I can only talk about my behavior.'
K. Muralidharan's tough stand
Senior congress leader and four-time mp K. Muraleedharan had recently said that unless shashi tharoor withdraws his statements on the pahalgam terror attack and India's military response (Operation Sindoor) in April, he will not be invited to any party event in kerala, especially in Thiruvananthapuram. Muraleedharan said, "He is not with us, so there is no question of boycott."
'Development is above politics': Tharoor
Tharoor has repeatedly said that he prioritizes development over politics and political parties. He has also made statements praising the Emergency, former prime minister Indira gandhi, and PM Modi's leadership after the recent pahalgam attack, for which he was severely criticized.
Increased distance from congress party
Tharoor's relationship with the congress has been unstable since 2021, when he joined a group of dissident leaders called G-23 and questioned the leadership of the gandhi family. His rift with the party has deepened in the last few months, especially when he was among the few opposition MPs chosen to brief foreign partner countries on the pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. In an interview with NDTV, when asked about his current relationship with the congress, he said, "I have been completely loyal to the party and its ideology for the last 16 years."
