West Bengal's
trinamool congress (TMC) has suffered another setback.
lok sabha mp kalyan banerjee described
party mp mahua moitra as 'extremely low level' and 'waste of time'. This statement can further escalate the long-standing dispute between the two leaders. He said that because of
mahua moitra, he has become a 'bad person' in the eyes of many
party colleagues and now they do not consider her worth time or attention.
'It was a mistake to pay attention to her'
Kalyan Banerjee said, 'She (Mahua Moitra) is not my subject. She is of very low level. There is no point in discussing about her. Because of her, I became bad for many people. It was a waste of time and energy. It was my mistake to pay attention to her.' He also thanked a
junior lawyer who had sent him a message on the current controversy. He said, 'I have a
junior lawyer brother. He messaged me. That inspired me and I realized that
mahua moitra is no longer a topic for me. Now I have a lot of work to do.'
No response from Mahua Moitra
There has been no response from
mahua moitra on this statement. According to
party sources,
kalyan banerjee and
mahua moitra have clashed several times, which has made the
party leadership uncomfortable. Both have accused each other of rudeness and ignoring the standards of civilized communication.
Regret over the statement made on
mamata Banerjee
According to the report of NDTV,
kalyan banerjee also expressed regret over the statements made against
party supremo and
chief minister mamata Banerjee. He said, 'I have also spoken against Didi. I think it would have been better not to say this.' On the question of talking to the
chief minister on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, he said, 'Didi blessed me. Not once, but thrice.'
Resignation from the post of Chief Whip
On July 4,
kalyan banerjee resigned as the Trinamool Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha. He had alleged that he was being unfairly blamed for the lack of coordination among MPs, while some MPs hardly come to Parliament. In an emotional tone, he said that he was deeply hurt by the party's silence on the 'insult' heaped on him by a fellow
mp (hinting at Mahua Moitra).
Controversy escalated after Mamata's meeting
The decision to resign came hours after a virtual meeting of
party MPs chaired by
mamata banerjee, in which she expressed displeasure over the weak coordination in the party's parliamentary wing. Although
kalyan banerjee says that he resigned voluntarily, close sources say that he was considering himself a scapegoat after months of tension with
mahua moitra and cricketer-turned-politician
mp Kirti Azad.
