Congress Attacks Mohan Bhagwat

On august 29, 2025, congress targeted Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat over his remarks related to retirement at 75 years of age.

Congress accused him of giving two contradictory statements within a month.

Jairam Ramesh’s Reaction

Congress General Secretary jairam ramesh posted on X:

“One month, one person, two opposite statements.”

He highlighted the inconsistency in Bhagwat’s recent statements.

Bhagwat’s Clarification (August 28, 2025)

Mohan Bhagwat clarified that he never said:

He would retire at 75.

Nor that others must retire at that age.

His statement was seen as a response to growing speculation linking his earlier comments to prime minister Narendra Modi, who also turns 75 next month.

Background of the Speculation

Earlier, Bhagwat’s comment on retirement age was interpreted as an indirect message about leaders stepping aside at 75.

Since both PM Modi and Bhagwat will turn 75 in september 2025, the remark triggered political discussions.

Reference to Moropant Pingle

Bhagwat explained that he was only citing former RSS leader Moropant Pingle’s views while answering a question.

He did not intend to lay down a rule on retirement.

‘Ready to Retire Anytime’ Remark

Bhagwat said:

“I never said one should retire at 75.”

“We are ready to retire anytime in life if the Sangh wishes.”

He emphasized that work continues as long as the Sangh requires.

Example: “Even if at 80 the Sangh asks me to run a branch, I will do it.”

Congress’s Political Spin

Congress used the clarification to taunt the RSS chief, portraying it as a contradiction.

The debate reflects the sensitive issue of retirement age for top leaders within indian politics.
