Big Change Coming in PF Access System
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)) is preparing a major upgrade (often referred to as “EPFO 3.0”) that will allow members to withdraw PF money using UPI apps and ATM-style cards.
But the key question is: how much PF can actually be withdrawn?
💳 1. Withdrawal Limit via UPI
Under the upcoming system:
- UPI withdrawals will likely allow instant partial PF withdrawals
- Proposed cap per transaction: around ₹25,000 (initial phase)
- Some reports suggest higher limits up to ₹1 lakh for eligible cases in full rollout
👉 So, UPI is mainly meant for small or emergency withdrawals, not full PF withdrawal.
🏧 2. Withdrawal via ATM (PF Card System)
For ATM-based access:
- You may withdraw up to 75% of eligible PF balance for approved needs like:
- Medical emergency
- Education
- Marriage
- In some cases, full withdrawal rules (retirement/job loss) still apply separately
👉 ATM withdrawal is expected to work like a debit card linked to PF, but with limits based on eligibility.
⚠️ 3. Important Rule: Minimum Balance Must Stay
Even with new systems:
- At least 25% of PF balance must remain in the account
This is to ensure retirement savings are protected.
🧾 4. What Can You Withdraw Overall?
Depending on your situation:
- Emergency/partial withdrawal: ~75% allowed in eligible cases
- UPI instant withdrawal: ₹25,000–₹1,00,000 (expected range)
- Full withdrawal: only in retirement, unemployment, or specific conditions
📌 Final Summary
- UPI = small, instant withdrawals (₹25K–₹1L range expected)
- ATM = larger, purpose-based partial withdrawals (up to ~75%)
- PF is still not fully withdrawable anytime—rules remain tied to purpose and eligibility
