In London, a patient was fitted with the world's first 3D artificial eye. The artificial eye was fitted to Steve Verghese of Hyakney in east London. The surgery took place on november 25 at Moorefields Eye Hospital in London.

Doctors claim that it is more natural than the traditional style acrylic artificial eye.

It also takes less time to set it up for patients. The process, which usually takes six weeks to set up, is reduced to three weeks.

'Awesome to look at

"It's nice to see this new eye. It's based on 3D printing technology. With that, it's even better," Varghese said.

Those with a traditional-style artificial eye will need to attend a 2-hour medical procedure to have their eye socket replaced. The artificial eye is then fitted and coloured.

The time it takes to make this 3D print artificial eye is also reduced to two to three weeks. Hospital sources say a half-hour appointment is not enough when you first go to the clinic.

'' We hope that future clinical trials will provide more evidence of the value that this new technology offers. It also shows the benefits to patients".
