The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has taken a big decision for mobile users, due to which it has become very easy to change from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid on networks like Jio, Airtel, bsnl and VI. Earlier, where one had to wait for 90 days for this, now this process can be completed in just 30 days, that too only through OTP-based KYC. DoT, while giving information about this decision on its official X (former Twitter) handle, said that now users will be able to change their existing mobile connection within only 30 days. For this, they will have to go to the store of the concerned telecom company and complete the KYC process through OTP.
What has changed in the rule?
In the old rule implemented on 21 september 2021, users had to wait for 90 days to change the connection. But now this cooling period has been reduced to 30 days. This will provide relief to those users who want to change the plan due to poor network or service. They will no longer have to wait for three months.
There is a 30-day exemption for the first time
This rule will apply only to those who change from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid for the first time. This means that the user will have to wait only for 30 days to change the plan for the first time.
What is the rule for repeated changes?
If a user wants to change the plan again, then he will be allowed to make changes through OTP based process only 90 days after the last change. Telecom companies have been instructed to ensure that they inform the customers about this rule before changing the plan every time. If a user wants to make changes again before the completion of the 30 or 90 day period, then he can make this change from authorized stores or sales centers by completing the KYC process. This new rule of DOT has been brought keeping in mind the convenience of the users, due to which now changing the mobile service has become easier and faster than ever.
