Dr. K Laxman, the national OBC morcha president of the bharatiya janata party, was nominated for a rajya sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh, which surprised many in the party in Telangana. In the presence of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Laxman filed his nomination papers for a rajya sabha seat in lucknow on Tuesday. He will be the first bjp leader from telangana to reach the Upper house if elected.

Though the bjp hinted two days ago that a telangana party leader will be nominated for the rajya sabha from Uttar Pradesh, no one expected Laxman to obtain the nomination because he was never on the radar of the state party officials. Former mp Garikapati Mohan Rao, the party's national general secretary P muralidhar rao, and another former mp M vijayashanti were all mentioned in the media and within the party circles. Jupalli Rameshwara Rao, an industrialist and chairman of My home Group, was also mentioned.

Laxman, on the other hand, emerged as a dark horse and won the RS nomination. He was reportedly chosen by the party because he is a bc leader who is non-controversial, and his promotion to the Upper house will aid the party in attracting BCs. However, investigations found that former Union minister and current haryana governor bandaru dattatreya played a key role in Laxman's election to the RS seat. Both have cordial contacts, and Laxman previously represented Musheerabad, which was previously part of Dattatreya's secunderabad parliamentary seat.
