The government of india declared 15 september 1968 as National Engineer's Day, in fact on this day Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a prominent engineer of his time, was born in a Brahmin family at Muddanahalli, Mysore. It is also abbreviated as MV. Impressed by MV's efforts, the government tried to pay tribute by organizing his birth anniversary as Engineer's Day. Besides being a civil engineer, he was also a politician and served as the 19th Diwan of Mysore. Started as Assistant engineer in the bombay Public Works Department. He undertook complex projects like the development of krishna Raja Sagar Dam in mysore, the irrigation system in the Deccan Plateau, flood protection system for Hyderabad. Engineers Day Celebration:
On the occasion of Engineers Day, many programs are being organized near the Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Memorial at his birthplace. The program is organized by Visvesvaraya National Memorial Trust. Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya's awards, titles, and personal belongings are on display. Locals consider this place a temple. Senior ministers and other political leaders of the country paid tribute to him through their speeches.
