The Origin of Thor

Thor, the son of Odin and his wife Frigga, was Loki's adoptive younger brother. Both of the brothers appear to have thought they stood a chance of inheriting the throne of Asgard, but Thor, who is an Asgardian by birth rather than a Frost Giant who has been ensorcelled to hide his actual identity, was always going to be the ruler. Despite the fact that the god of Thunder was unaware of its true purpose, Odin handed Thor the magical hammer Mjolnir to use as a weapon. The Odinson enjoyed his military campaigns much as his father had in earlier years as he grew up to become one of Asgard's greatest warriors. Because he felt his father did not love and trust him, Thor's adopted brother Loki came to dislike him.

How Thor became Worthy

In the first Thor movie, Loki made a covert agreement with Laufey, the king of the Frost Giants, which resulted in an incident that derailed Thor's planned coronation as the new king of Asgard. Then, to to Odin's chagrin, he managed to prod Thor into mounting a counterattack against the Frost Giants. Thor appears to have reminded Odin too much of the wild and impulsive man he had formerly been who would plunge the Nine Realms into battle before he gained wisdom. In 2011, Odin banished Thor to Earth, stripped him of his abilities, and labelled him worthless in the hopes that he would learn some humility. As he became aware of his actual identity, Loki intensified his machinations and carried them out.

Odin's wishes for Thor, however, were realised in an unexpected way when his son fell in love with Jane Foster and other people he encountered on Earth. The Odinson offered to give his life to save the people when Loki sent the Destroyer to Earth to slay Thor, demonstrating his worth once more. Returning to Asgard for a crucial encounter with Loki, Thor restored his might. In order to fight his adopted brother, he was compelled to smash the Bifrost, which briefly prevented him from returning to Earth to see Jane and appeared to have resulted in Loki's death.

Thor & The Original Avengers

Loki escaped from the Bifrost's destruction by using a covert portal. He was found by Thanos, who made a deal with him to deliver the Space Stone to the Mad Titan in exchange for an army to aid in the conquest of Earth. But thanks to Frigga's own power, she was able to detect these actions and alert Thor. In 2012, Odin simulated the Bifrost using his own dark magic, sending Thor to Earth to aid in the defeat of Loki and the expulsion of the Chitauri. Because of his bravery in the Battle of New York, as depicted in The Avengers, Thor became one of the original Avengers and a well-known superhero. Thor utilised the Tesseract's power to repair the Bifrost and to travel back to Asgard with Loki as his prisoner.

Mjolnir's Destruction At The Hands Of Hela

The Nine Realms were in disorder, and Thor: Ragnarok revealed that Loki had replaced Odin and was no longer acting in Asgard's regular capacity as the Nine Realms' protector. When he and Loki came back to Earth in 2018, they learned that Odin was finally passing away. They were both there when he did. Thor's older sister Hela was freed after Odin died since most of his power was undone. She had ruled with Odin when he was a conqueror, so long ago that Thor had no knowledge of or memory of her. Hela took hold of Mjolnir and, to Thor's horror, utilised her own strength to permanently break the enchanted hammer.
