Mandous Cyclone Warning..! Fast-filling Lakes & Dams..!

Due to heavy rains and strong winds across the Tiruvallur district, Poondi Lake, the main lake that supplies drinking water to chennai, is filling up fast. Meanwhile, water is being released from Chembarambakkam lake this afternoon.

Red Alert Warning:

The district Collector had already ordered a holiday for schools and colleges today as a precautionary measure as the chennai Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert warning for heavy rains in Tiruvallur district. Following this, due to heavy rains with strong winds in various parts of Tiruvallur district since last night, Poondi Satyamurthy Reservoir, which is the main source of drinking water for the people of chennai, has filled to a height of 33 feet out of its full capacity of 35 feet. And while the water inflow to the lake is 595 cubic feet, water is being released from the dam at the rate of 457 cubic feet.
Sembarambakkam water opening:

Poondi Lake currently has a water reserve of 2521 million cubic feet out of its full capacity of 3231 million cubic feet. Following this, 133 places in the Tiruvallur district have been identified as the most affected places and 42 committees have been formed for them and arrangements have been made to prevent the effects.Also, the district Collector has appealed to the general public not to go out unnecessarily and stay in safe areas as Cyclone Mandous will cross the coast at midnight today. Meanwhile, today (9-12-22) 100 cubic feet of water is being released from Sembarambakkam lake at 12 noon, the district head has requested the public to be safe.
