The deep depression over the Bay of bengal intensified into cyclonic storm 'Michaung' on sunday and is expected to cross the South andhra pradesh coast between nellore and machilipatnam as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph on december 5, according to the india Meteorological Department (IMD).

Cyclone Michaung, which is travelling north-westward in the south-west Bay of bengal, is moving at a pace of 13 kilometres per hour, according to the andhra pradesh State Disaster Management Agency. Currently, it is 150 kilometres to chennai, 250 kilometres to nellore, 360 kilometres to Bapat, and 380 kilometres to Machilipatnam. Today, the storm will proceed parallel to the coast.  Michaung, a violent storm, will cross the coast between nellore and machilipatnam on tuesday afternoon.

Due to the persistent rain, the madras high court ordered a vacation for all courts in chennai on Monday. Principal district judges in Kanchipuram, Chengalpet, and Tiruvallur will make a decision based on the scenario in their respective districts. In light of Cyclone Michaung, the tamil Nadu government recommended private enterprises and offices in chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpet to instruct their staff to work from home on monday or to operate solely with necessary personnel in unavoidable instances.
