Bihar's government has raised the Social Security Pension Scheme by ₹700, effective July.

The bihar government has increased the amount under the Social Security Pension Scheme by Rs 700, announced chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday. 


Under the scheme, widowed women, elderly, and disabled people will now receive a monthly pension of Rs 1,100 from the previous Rs 400 from July, Kumar said. 


"I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, widowed women, elderly, and disabled people will now get a pension of Rs. 1100 instead of Rs. 400 every month. All beneficiaries will get a pension at the increased rate from the month of July. It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries a lot," said the bihar cm in a post on X.


Kumar's announcement comes just months ahead of the assembly polls in Bihar where he aims to retain his chair for the 10th consecutive time.


Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary thanked Kumar for increasing the amount in the pension schemes, calling it a "historic day". "Today is a historic day as the cm has increased the pensions for widows, the elderly, and the specially abled. I thank the cm for this," said the Deputy CM. 


PM's Visit To Bihar 

Prime minister Narendra Modi visited Siwan district in the state on Friday where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 5,200 crore. He also paid respects to baba Mahendra Nath and baba Hans Nath and invoked the sacred presence of Sohgara Dham.


Sounding the poll bugle in the poll-bound state, Modi affirmed that bihar will be playing a major role in transforming India as the world's third-largest economic powerhouse.


"A prosperous bihar will significantly contribute to the country's overall development", PM Modi said, attributing the confidence to the strength and capability of the people of Bihar.
