After confessing to committing an indecent act in a fellow female student's dorm over the christmas break last year, an 18-year-old indian student studying civil engineering at Northumbria university in the UK was given a suspended prison sentence.

Udkarsh Yadav, the accused, used a gym keycard that was inadvertently set up to grant access to every room in the student housing complex to enter a female undergraduate's room without permission while she was gone. Express claims that Yadav entered the victim's empty room after she had come home for the holidays and urinated on her bed cover and three plush Jellycat teddy bears.

When the female student returned in January, she found a crusty white residue covering her soft toys and mattress. She informed the authorities about the situation since she was suspicious and upset. Yadav eventually confessed to the deed, saying he was "overcome with desire," after dna testing verified that his genetic material was present on the objects, according to the Express story.

Yadav later confessed as a result of the forensic evidence, even though he had initially refused to speak during police questioning. He was given a 14-month prison term with a two-year suspension by the Newcastle Crown Court. This implies that if he doesn't commit another crime within that time, he won't have to go to jail. He was ordered to complete 200 hours of community service, participate in rehabilitation sessions, and pay £117 in compensation for the damaged property in addition to the suspended sentence.

Northumbria university promptly addressed the security vulnerability following the conviction.  After the broken keycard system was fixed, Yadav was relocated to a different residence. Expulsion from the course is one of the further disciplinary measures the university is considering.  Yadav is in the UK on a student visa; if his visa is revoked following the conviction, he might be deported.
