In the months before its premiere, Snow White made headlines for all the wrong reasons. In the end, the film only made $205.6 million at the global box office and debuted to largely unfavorable reviews (39% on Rotten Tomatoes). rachel Zegler, the lead actress, was criticized from the start, mostly because she was Colombian-American and her skin wasn't as "white as snow." Her comments on the 1937 animated classic, which many perceived as disparaging, and her choice to include the words "free Palestine" and an X with the trailer for the remake, however, sparked even more controversy.

When she posted the words "F*** Donald Trump" on instagram following last year's U.S. elections, things became more heated. When i-D (via Toonado.com) questioned Zegler about the online perception of her, she said, "It's interesting."  There are times when it's very frightening.

She went on to say, "My support for one cause does not condemn any other, and my compassion has no boundaries, is really what it is." That has always been the central aspect of my identity.  It's how I was brought up.

"There are obviously things that are at stake by being outspoken, but nothing is worth innocent lives," said Zegler.  "If my lack of a fence around my heart is viewed as my downfall, then what?  Things can get worse.

Some people blame Zegler for Snow White's shortcomings, ignoring the awful creative choices made from the beginning. The Shazam! The star of Fury of the Gods acknowledges that dealing with the vitriol on the internet and witnessing a dream part swiftly turn into a nightmare has been difficult.

"My f***ing psychiatrist has seen me through all of it," she said.  "What you're experiencing is not typical.  In several instances during my life, the sentence worked wonders for me.

Because of her Snow White encounter, "which was truly a game changer, because I just wasn't functioning," Zegler continued, she has been taking anxiety medication.  Additionally, I wanted to operate in a manner that gave me confidence in my ability to navigate the world.
