china is attempting to impede India's increasing export and manufacturing success, particularly as india is swiftly emerging as a potent rival to china in the global supply chain.

China ceased exporting rare earth magnets to india almost two months ago.  These magnets are crucial components found in electronics, automobiles, and military hardware.  China is currently limiting India's access to specific fertilizers that support the country's fruit and vegetable cultivation.

India has emerged as a significant supplier of electronics, particularly smartphones, to major countries such as the united states within the last four to five years. China's stake in these markets is declining as India's importance increases.

For instance, only 27% of the apple devices shipped into the US in april of this year came from china, whereas an astounding 57% came from India.

Trade tensions between the US and china began during US President Donald Trump's first term, marking the beginning of this change. India's exports to the US have increased consistently ever since.

India sent USD 54 billion worth of goods to the united states in 2019.  This amount had increased to USD 90 billion by 2024.  Compared to May of last year, China's exports to the US fell 34% in May of this year.  During the same period, India's exports to the US increased by 17%. It is evident that india is gaining ground in international trade, and china is not pleased about this.

Beijing wants to disrupt India's manufacturing growth
According to foreign trade experts, rare earth magnets are crucial for the production of goods in the electronics and automotive industries, particularly electric cars, two sectors where indian manufacturing is rapidly expanding.

In actuality, India's exports of electronics increased by 54% in May of this year over the same period the previous year.

Rare earth magnets are also necessary for India's ascent to prominence as a chip manufacturing nation.

According to experts, china is purposefully preventing india from receiving these magnets in order to impede India's development in these important areas.  It's interesting to note that china has already started sending rare earth magnets to other nations again, but not to India.

This indicates that the problem is probably a deliberate attempt to halt India's advancements in electronics, electric vehicles, and semiconductor manufacturing rather than a worldwide shortage.

Fruits and vegetables now play a bigger role in India's agricultural exports
Fruits and vegetables now account for a larger portion of India's agricultural exports, which have increased rapidly in recent years, according to trade experts.

India exported agricultural goods valued at USD 35 billion in 2019–20 and USD 51 billion in 2024–2025.

Some fertilizers that indian farmers utilize to increase their production of fruits and vegetables are no longer being sent to india by China.

As a result, indian companies and the government have begun searching for rare earth magnet suppliers in other nations.  To lessen India's reliance on china for these crucial goods and commodities, they are also trying to create domestic substitutes.
