At the shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers' meeting in beijing on tuesday (July 14, 2025), India's Foreign minister Dr. S. jaishankar stressed the need to make no compromise against terrorism, separatism and extremism. A few hours before this, he met Chinese President Xi jinping and informed him about the recent progress in bilateral relations.
Jaishankar met Xi jinping along with the foreign ministers of SCO member countries. During this, he also gave a message on behalf of President draupadi murmu and prime minister Narendra Modi. He said that india considers the guidance of leaders very important in its relations with China.
Sharp attack on pakistan and pahalgam attack from SCO platform
When he was addressing the SCO meeting in Tianjin, he said about the terrorist attack in pahalgam, kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir on april 22 that this attack was deliberately done to weaken the tourism-based economy of the valley and spread religious tension.
Jaishankar said, "SCO was formed to fight terrorism, extremism and separatism, these three evils. Therefore, if SCO wants to remain true to its basic objectives, then it will have to take a strict and clear stand against terrorism."
He told that after this attack, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) also condemned it in strong words and talked about bringing those responsible to justice. In response to the attack, india targeted terrorist hideouts in Pakistan-controlled areas under Operation Sindoor on May 7. This action lasted for four days, after which a ceasefire was agreed between india and pakistan on May 10.
Indirect taunt on China's attitude
Jaishankar's statement comes at a time when india did not support the joint declaration in the SCO Defense Ministers' meeting due to objections to Pakistan's mention of the pahalgam attack. india has also been upset over the fact that china has several times blocked attempts to ban Pakistan-backed terrorists in the UNSC.
Also expressed concern over Afghanistan
Jaishankar also mentioned the situation in afghanistan and appealed to SCO member countries to increase development assistance for Afghan citizens. He said that india will continue to cooperate on its part.
Indirect attack on BRI
Jaishankar also indirectly targeted China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project without naming it. He said that any regional cooperation should be based on sovereignty, territorial integrity and mutual respect. Let us tell you that a part of BRI passes through Pakistan-Occupied kashmir (PoK), which india has been opposing.
