One reason for Pakistan's frustration is that under the Indus Water Treaty, it gets water from three major rivers from India. The suspension of the treaty can have a direct impact on this supply.

After the killing of 26 innocent civilians in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on april 22, india decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, which had been in force since 1960. india held pakistan responsible for the attack, and after this, under a four-day military operation, Operation Sindoor, attacked terrorist bases in pakistan and POK. One reason for Pakistan's panic is that under this agreement, it gets water from three major rivers from India. The suspension of the treaty can have a direct impact on this supply.

The Chinese media have described india as 'aggressive' and expressed apprehension of using water as a weapon. China has also announced that it will expedite the Mohmand Dam project on the tributary of the Indus, which will benefit pakistan and may increase strategic pressure on India.

Many experts in india believe that the terms of the Indus Water Treaty have been too lenient for Pakistan. About 65% of Pakistan's population lives in the Indus basin, while in india, this number is just 14%. In such a situation, India's tough stance has put pakistan in a strategically uncomfortable position.

China came forward to help Pakistan

China has now started considering itself an important party to the Indus Water Treaty. The Chinese media has described india as aggressive on this issue and warned that if india uses 'water as a weapon', it can have serious consequences. The reports also mention that the source of the indus river is in China's western tibet region, which makes this dispute more sensitive. Along with this, china has also announced that it will speed up the construction work of the Mohmand Hydro Project on the tributary of the Indus in Pakistan. This step is also considered a diplomatic message for India.
