 A shocking incident took place in Durgapur, West bengal, where a medical student from odisha was allegedly gang-raped. The crime occurred near the campus of a private medical college in Shobhapur. The student had gone out with a male friend to eat outside the campus when some men attacked her. One of the accused dragged her to a secluded area behind the campus gate, where multiple men committed the heinous act


CM mamata Banerjee’s Reaction


 West bengal chief minister mamata banerjee expressed deep concern over the incident, calling it “shocking” and reiterating her government’s zero tolerance toward crimes against women. She confirmed that three accused have already been arrested, and police are actively searching for others involved


Question to Private College


 CM Banerjee questioned how the victim was allowed to leave the college premises at 12:30 a.m., emphasizing that the private medical college must take responsibility for ensuring student safety. She pointed out that the location of the incident was near a forested area, adding that the full investigation is ongoing


Assurance of Strict Action


 The chief minister assured that no one will be spared and the culprits will face severe punishment. She also stated that the police are working under direct supervision to ensure justice for the victim.


Response to Opposition’s Criticism


 Countering the opposition’s attack, mamata banerjee questioned their silence on similar incidents in odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. She highlighted that the West bengal government treats such incidents as serious and never trivializes crimes against women.


Victim’s Condition and Family’s Plea


 The survivor is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital and has given her statement to the police. Her father reported that she is bedridden and unable to walk. He thanked state officials for their support but requested the Chief Minister’s permission to shift his daughter to odisha for safety reasons.
