
ED Raids Srisan Pharma After Children’s Deaths Linked to Toxic Cough Syrup

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted raids at seven locations linked to Srisan Pharma in Chennai and also at residences of tamil Nadu Drug Control Department officials.
Raids were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Triggering Incident
Over 20 children died in madhya pradesh and rajasthan recently after consuming Coldrif cough syrup, manufactured by Srisan Pharma.
The cause of death was reported as kidney failure, linked to toxic ingredients in the syrup.
Toxic Ingredient Identified
Tests revealed the presence of lethal levels of diethylene glycol in the cough syrup.
Diethylene glycol is a toxic industrial chemical, used in antifreeze, and is banned in many regions due to its deadly effects on the kidneys.
ED’s criminal Case
The ED registered a criminal case after receiving police complaints from madhya pradesh and tamil Nadu.
Srisan Pharma owner G. Ranganathan was arrested on october 9 in connection with the case.
