Chennai: tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin has announced that Minister Durai Murugan will be honored with the prestigious Anna Award in recognition of his long-standing service and contributions to the state. The announcement was made on January 13, 2026, highlighting the government’s acknowledgment of leadership and dedication in public service.

In addition, the Periyar Award will be presented to lawyer Arulmozhi, in honor of his work promoting social justice, equality, and rationalist principles inspired by Periyar E.V. Ramasamy. These awards are part of the state’s tradition of recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to society, politics, and cultural life in tamil Nadu.

Furthermore, the Bharathiyar Award will be conferred on Yugabharathi, the renowned poet and film lyricist, celebrating his literary excellence and contribution to tamil poetry and contemporary tamil cinema. Yugabharathi’s work has been widely appreciated for blending classical tamil literary sensibilities with modern themes, making him a prominent voice in tamil literature and arts.

Through these awards, the tamil Nadu government under chief minister stalin aims to honor excellence across multiple fields—politics, social reform, and literature—while encouraging continued contributions to tamil society and culture.
