Godhumai Kali is a traditional South indian dish made with broken wheat (Godhumai), jaggery, and ghee. It’s simple, wholesome, and often recommended for strength, recovery, and overall health.

🥘 Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

  • Broken wheat (dalia / samba godhumai rava) – ½ cup
  • Water – 2 ½ cups
  • Jaggery (vellam) – ½ cup (adjust sweetness)
  • Ghee – 2 tbsp
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
  • Cashews – 6–8 (optional, roasted in ghee)
  • Salt – a tiny pinch

👩‍🍳 Method

Roast the Wheat:

Heat 1 tsp ghee in a pan, roast the broken wheat on low flame for 2-3 mins until aromatic.

Cook the Wheat:

Add water and a pinch of salt.

Cover and cook on low flame until the wheat is soft and all water is absorbed.

Prepare jaggery Syrup:

In another pan, melt jaggery with ¼ cup water.

Strain to remove impurities and keep aside.

Mix & Simmer:

Add the jaggery syrup to the cooked wheat, stir continuously.

Cook until it thickens to a porridge-like consistency.

Finish with Ghee:

Add remaining ghee, cardamom powder, and roasted cashews.

Stir well and switch off the heat.

Serve Warm:

Serve hot for breakfast or as an evening snack.
