A study was conducted on the incidence of disease in depressed youth. Expanding on that, a new study from Johns Hopkins Medicine found that young adults who experience depression are more likely to develop heart disease. According to data collected from more than 5 lakh people between the ages of 18 and 49 years, the incidence of heart disease among young people has been detected. heart rate and blood pressure increase when young people feel more stressed and anxious. Bad lifestyle factors like smoking, drinking alcohol, lack of sleep, fatigue, etc. All of this affects your heart, says Karima Sharma, associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins. A survey of nearly 5,93,616 people between 2017 and 2020 revealed that young people are more likely to suffer from depression and heart disease. The researchers found that young people who had more days of depression had a stronger association with poorer heart health.Youth who experienced 13 consecutive days of stress were 1.5 times more likely to develop heart disease compared to non-stressed youth. Those with poor mental health for more than 2 weeks had double the hearthealth risk. Depression and heart disease are linked pathways and are related to each other. People with heart disease experience depression. So reducing depression can protect the heart, says Ya Adomah Kwapong, lead author of the Johns Hopkins Medicine study.
