Even though a country like turkey may be years away from sending any of its people to space, but a restaurant here has tried its best to take the kebabs made by them in space. This restaurant located in Adana in southern turkey has prepared this delicious dish from the pipe.

Efforts to send kebabs to space

On 12 april 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin set a major milestone in the space race by becoming the first person to orbit the Earth. Exactly 61 years later, a restaurant in Adana, southeastern turkey, has contributed to the mission to celebrate Gagarin and the international Day of Human Spaceflight, built in his honor. This restaurant has launched its special kebabs into space giving Turkish flavor.

Special box made for kebabs

A few hours before Iftar for Muslims, Yasser Aydin has launched a small dish called 'Pipe' Kebab in the stratosphere. Restaurant owner Yasser Aydin, with a little help from Idris Albayrak, a local space engineering student and entrepreneur, put the spicy Adana pipe kebabs in a special box. This box was designed to withstand extreme temperatures. This box will have to face such temperature while going into space.

While kebabs and livers are already one of the hottest dishes in Turkish cuisine, pip kebabs have become a new trendy dish in Adana. This dish is attracting people. This particular kebab was wrapped around a steel pipe instead of skewers so that it was filled with juice. On Tuesday, pip kebabs became Turkey's first export to be sent into space. Restaurant owner Aydin also added side dishes like onions and salad to the kebabs.

Such a kebab was sent to the sky

The box of kebabs was lifted by a large helium balloon with a tracking box and camera, using a Styrofoam tray. The kebab traveled for three hours, reaching a height of 35 to 40 kilometres. However, when the balloon exploded in the sea off the Turkish coast, it crashed. In this way its journey was reduced.

Aydn had originally planned to launch his kebabs into space during a recent festival in the city, but adverse weather conditions delayed the launch. Speaking to the media, Aydn joked that, "I think the aliens sent it back because it had too much pepper. I'll send a dish with less pepper next time."
