Is period leave necessary for women?

Actually, women suffer from pain (stomach cramps, swelling) and mental problems during periods. By getting period leave, they can take care of their health and rest without worrying about money. Period leave will make it easier to talk openly about periods, which has remained a matter of embarrassment till now. According to the IMF, if women are involved in work at par with men, then India's GDP will increase by 27% and by 2025, 700 billion dollars more will be added. Period leave is not just a leave, it is also important for women's health, equality at work and the progress of the country.

However, there are some things said against period leave as well. This will make companies feel that they have to give leave to women every month, so they will avoid giving them jobs. It will be difficult to find out whether the leave has been taken for the right reason or not. Some people can also misuse it and it will be difficult for companies to implement it. Apart from this, it can also promote wrong thinking. Giving period leave as a separate leave can show menstruation as a bad thing, which can make women feel embarrassed.

Period leave: What does the Constitution say?

Article 15(3) of the Constitution says that special provisions can be made for women. This means that those who say that period leave will discriminate against men are wrong. The Constitution allows making separate rules for women.

At the same time, Article 42 says that the government should ensure 'just and humane working conditions' and 'maternity relief'. Some people believe that period leave is a part of this responsibility. Meaning, it is the government's responsibility to make the working environment humane for women during periods. According to the Constitution, it is not wrong to give period leave to women. Ratherit is the government's responsibility to ensure a good working environment for women.
