It might be worthwhile to reflect on amitabh Bachchan's interesting relationship with the South indian cinema industry since he recently celebrated his 80th birthday. In addition to appearing in the 2010 malayalam film "Kandahar," starring mohanlal and directed by Major Ravi, Bachchan has also collaborated with a number of South indian film industry notables, beginning with Madhu on his debut film "Saat Hindustani."

Veteran actor Madhu alias madhavan Nair of the malayalam film industry and recipient of the padma shri award, who starred in the 1965 film "Chemmeen," which won the President's Medal for best feature film, recalled his friendship with Bachchan during a media interview at his home in Thiruvananthapuram. The 89-year-old actor gushed, "I was happy to learn that the young actor making his debut in K.A. Abbas's movie was his son. Being a former college professor, I was always captivated by Harivanshrai Bachchan.

"I had no idea it would be the great poet's son when abbas told me a new actor was on the way. I told him about Harivanshrai Bachchan when I first met him, and amitabh informed me that Teji Bachchan, his mother, served on the panel that selected "Chemmeen" to receive the National Award "said Madhu. The seasoned actor also recalled how Bachchan would remember how reciting the poem helped him modulate his voice after the filming, whenever the unit had some free time. In Major Ravi's 2010 film "Kandahar," which stars the malayalam superstar mohanlal, Bachchan appeared beside him onscreen. However, the movie did poorly at the box office.

The South indian actor Rajinikanth's daughter Soundariya directed the tamil film "Kochadaiiyan" (2014), for which the superstar narrated the hindi version. Rajinikanth and Bachchan appeared together onscreen in the 1983 films "Andha Kaanoon" and "Geraftaar" (1985). The latter movie also had Kamal Haasan, another South indian celebrity, in its impressive cast. Akshara, the daughter of Kamal Haasan, co-starred with Bachchan in the satirical movie "Shamitabh" directed by R. Balki. Both the tamil actor dhanush and the telugu superstar Akkineni Nagarjuna, most recently seen alongside Bachchan in "Brahmastra," appeared in the film. Additionally, Balki helmed Bachchan in "Cheeni Kum," "Paa," and the upcoming "Chup: Revenge of the Artiste."
